Christmas 2014_1393_1

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas with an easy craft idea to warm your home this holiday season.

A Holiday Yarn Wreath!

Anyone can make this and it’s a great activity for a lazy crafty afternoon with family and friends.    It’s not too late, you still a few days to make your own!  All you need is some bulky weight yarn, a metal wreath, some ribbon and any holiday decoration of your choice.  You can use any thickness of yarn but the thicker you go, the less time it will take.  Start with cutting your yarn into the desired length.  Tie them all the way around your metal wreath and add some decorations of your choice.  You can buy pre made items or simply glue ties to pine cones to make your own.

Add some ribbon and voila!  You’ve got yourself a fun new wreath for your home.  This year, I couldnt find the hook for my door so I jazzed up my mantel with it instead.

IMG_1760In the last year, I spent my time planning the wedding of my dreams!  It was a spectacular day and I look forward to sharing with you some of my wedding crafts.  I’m also really excited to update the Miss Craft It look with new pictures.  And I recently adopted 2 cat twins!  More on that soon!

Seedy-Eyed Handband_0360

This is the time of the year, where living in Vancouver is a dream…..spring flowers!!!  The cherry blossoms are just coming out and after getting back from a wonderful stroll around a botanical garden to take some fun knitting pictures, I’m feeling inspired. The cherry blossoms don’t last long so you have to be ready.  Luckily, Shmeph and I work well on the fly and she was on top of it this year.  Details on that next time.  Now on to official business, this headband came together when I received a friendly request for a headband and got my hands on some oh so yummy Malabrigo Rasta.  I could have knit her a LIVLOVE headband but I felt she needed her own design to reflect her feisty personality.  And you better watch out, this SEEDY-EYE might hypnotize you into knitting your own!

The SEEDY-EYED Headband is knit flat in a original cable stitch.  This pattern is great for advanced-beginner knitters who are looking to make a stylist headband. It’s easy to read and gauge is flexible with any super-bulky weight yarn.  The finished band fits heads approximately 20-22 inches around and 3.5 inches wide.

Coming up, some blossoming pics and a hat you can’t drop!

A special thanks to my girl Shmeph for taking for taking killer pictures.

You can find this pattern on Ravelry.

Beautiful ButterFly Cowl

Butterfly Cowl 015

My inspiration for this Butterfly Cowl was a bright skein of cozy Indigo Moon. This lace design is great for someone that has tried lace before but is looking for some lace upon lace type challenge.  An intermediate knitter, can make a few of these in no time since it’s roughly only 140 to 160 yards.  But if you are new to lace, make sure to take your time and remember to use stitch markers.  They are really helpful at keeping your pattern repeats in order.

This pattern is for an intermediate knitter and is knit with any worsted weight yarn. It has an easy to read chart and is worked in the round.  The finished blocked size measures is 7.5” tall and 21” wide.  You don’t have to limit yourself to knitting a cowl.  Simply cast on a few extra stitches and you’ve got yourself a universal scarf!

A special thanks to Shmeph for taking for once again killer pictures.

You can find this pattern on Ravelry and on MissCraftIt on Etsy.

Goodbye 2013, thanks for the wonderful memories and what a fabulous year it has been!  Getting engaged, publishing some of my favorite knitting designs, visiting friends/family and being blessed with amazing adventures.  I have so much to be thankful for.  Here’s a quick glance at how my year ended.  Thanks for the new lens Mom!  As you can see, it takes great pictures!!!

20140107-144849.jpg

Around this time of the year, I like to plan out my next projects, like a little knitting resolution.  Go through my entire stash looking for some leftovers I can design with, it’s a great place to get the creative juices flowing.  I have many new patterns in the works for the new year, I can’t wait to share them with you.  Thanks Shmeph for capturing these great moments.  Here are some of my favorite knitting moments of 2013.

To start off this year with a bang, a lacy butterfly cowl, a new cabled headband and a hat you shouldn’t drop along the way.

A Knit Chevron Pillow

20131202-161929.jpg

A fun pattern to add some coziness to your living room!  This pillow is knit flat in a chevron pattern.  It is worked in two pieces and sewn together or you can make 1 long panel for a little less seaming.  Gauge is important in this project to assure the correct shape of the pillow. You will need to purchase a 12” pillow insert.  If you aren’t sure if the gauge will match, simply buy your pillow insert after the pillow cover is knit up and blocked.

20131202-161920.jpg

This pattern is great for a beginner knitter who is looking to make a quick and easy household item.  So what are you waiting for?  Check your stash or head to the store and get started on your very own Chevron Pillow.  You might even have time to knit one in time for the holidays!

You can find this pattern for free on Ravelry!  Happy Holiday knitting!!!!

Happy Halloween!!!!!

20131031-111305.jpgThese last few weeks have been BUSY!!!!!!  DBone and I spend some time out in eastern Canada and we’ve barely been staying a float since getting back.  We’ve been running around trying to get his office going and I attended a great fiber event last weekend, Knit City!  I had so much fun!!!  A special thanks to Wet Coast Wools for including my patterns in their booth and for some of these great pics.  I had a great time working at the booth, mingling and most of all touching…. ssssquishing beautiful yarns!  I might have gone a little nutty while in there.  I splurged on some ridiculously soft Sweet Fiber yarn for my next cardigan and basically fell in love.  Hand dyed Luxury is right!!  Dragonfly Dyewerx was in the booth directly beside us and this beautiful skein just called me over.  It has a little bit of sparkle in it and is called Squid City, how fun is that?!?   This nice lady also made the most creative item in the grab bag.  Oh yeah, I was also one of the lucky ones to win a awesome grab bag!   So many fun surprises!

20131030-211613.jpg

On Monday, I decided to treat all my hard work with a little Halloween craft time.  I had purchased these supplies a few weeks ago but never got around to to making it.  Here’s my Halloween wreath!  Made with less than 10$ of material and DBone thought I had bought it.

Have fun trick and treating tonight!  I’ll be hanging with the knit chicks, eating candy and knitting.

20131022-131019.jpg

For the last few years, I’ve been blessed with fun travels and adventures! I wanted a pair of leg warmers to keep my chicken ankles warm.  After a few different lace patterns, I settled with something simple, with a little zigzagging!

This pattern is great for advanced-beginner knitters who are looking to make some cozy leg warmers with a bit of character. It’s easy to read and is worked with a light worsted weight yarn.  The finished blocked leg warmers measures 10”/12” around at the ankle and 12”/13.7” at top of the calf. The leg warmer measures 16” in length.  Pattern comes in ladies small and medium but you can adapt this pattern depending on your calf size. Simply try on your leg warmers as you knit it and work the increase row when needed.

20131022-152445.jpg

I am madly in love with mine, they have been amazing to have while traveling.  Here I am in Copenhagen keeping warm on their first adventure!

20131022-152435.jpg

For the next three months,  I’m hoping to release a new FREE pattern every month.  I had 2 zigzagging patterns on the go and decided to create a small free collection.  Let’s all zigzag together, shall we?!?  The next pattern will be a funky pillow for your home.  As for the third one, I haven’t decided yet?  Any ideas?  Have you been dying for a certain item?  Let me know, this is your time to have your say!

You can find this pattern on my Ravelry page and at Wet Coast Wools!

Spider Hat

When I started designing hats, an everyday beret was on the top of the list! With a few different versions, I didn’t seem to find satisfaction with my results. Until a few weeks ago, I had a huge epiphany! I was knitting the previous version when suddenly I could barely keep up with my thoughts. I quickly finished knitting the old version and started up a new one.  I knew right away that I had finally gotten it right!  The 6 stitch cables make the legs of the spider, spiraling along the hat!  Sometimes you don’t know why you are keeping a design in the vault….so far, it’s been worth it every time.  I am sooo excited with this design!  After a long wait, here is the new FINALE version of my Spider hat!

20130904-185300.jpg

This pattern is great for advanced-beginner knitters who are looking to make a great cabled beret. It’s easy to read and knits with worsted/aran weight yarn. The finished hat fits heads approximately 22-24 inches stretched out.

A special thanks to Shmeph again for testing this pattern and taking these great pictures!

You can find this pattern on Ravelry and on MissCraftIt on Etsy!

Coming up next, some zigzagging time with cozy fuzzy leg warmers!

20130904-185133.jpg

A few months ago, my good friend Liv asked me for a special custom item.  A headband to keep her warm during her fun visits up to Whistler. I decided to knit her a prototype to tie her over for the rest of the season and revisit the pattern a few months later. July came along with sunshine, inspiration and 2 different headbands in multiple yarns and alas, was created the LIVLOVE Headbands!

20130904-185155.jpg

The LIVLOVE headband is knit flat in a rib stitch pattern. It’s great for an advanced-beginner knitter who is looking to make a stylist headband. It’s easy to read and gauge is flexible with any bulky or super bulky weight yarn, just make sure to change your needle size depending on the yarn weight.

Pattern has 2 widths to choose from and 2 different cable braids!  The finished band fits a heads approximately 20-22 inches around. Thin version measures 2.5” wide and thick version measures 3.5” wide.

20130904-185121.jpg

The multi colored band is knit with bulky yarn and the light brown headband is knit with super bulky baby alpaca from Illimani, yummmmm!  There are many different braid you could do, make all the center pieces slightly different to jazz things up for yourself!  Perhaps a new made to order item coming your way?  What do you think?

You can find this pattern on Ravelry and on MissCraftIt on Etsy!

A little “Peek” help just in time for fall!

 20130906-113907.jpg

This summer, my goal was to get a few patterns out in time for fall.  thanks to a little added help, I have 2 new patterns to share with you!  Peek has been knitting up a storm, testing patterns, checking for typos and taking great pictures!  Ok, maybe she wasn’t the one “actually helping out” but, she sure tried to be included.

20130906-121048.jpg

As part of the summer sweater knit along at Wet Coast Wools, I spent my time knitting my first shirt.  Check out my Gemini shirt by Jane Richmond, knit in Katia Linen. I’m very happy with the final outcome, it fits like a glove.  Looking forward to wearing it this fall.  This shirt was such a fast knit,  that I also started the Ease sweater by Alicia Plummer halfway through the summer.  Trying to pace myself a little bit more with that one, it’s so hard!!!!

20130906-113933.jpg

Coming up, details on how my latest patterns came together just in time for the fall season!

A special thanks to my actual partner in knitting crime, Shmeph for all her hard work last month.  Couldn’t have done it without you and your pictures are beautiful as always.  Hopefully we can get a few more out for the holidays!

Up next, the story of my LIVLOVE Headbands and an other great friend.
